Buddo Secondary School music and it's participation in the development of Buganda Patriotism
Abstract
This study addressed the role of Buddo Secondary School music in the promotion of patriotism in Buganda. It was driven by the need to find out the nature of Buddo Secondary School music, the nature of Buganda patriotism and the people who express patriotism in Buganda. In addition the study examined the way how the music is made, the way how students join the choir and the way how music is disseminated. Patriotism in Buganda is very instrumental in keeping Buganda Kingdom strong but very few have come up to write about it especially during this era.
The researcher carried out a qualitative study, with fieldwork in Wakiso district that involved tools such as interviews, observation, documentary analysis and literature review. Furthermore the researcher used the internet to gather various information concerning, the current study through the various search engines as well as photography to analyze moments of the study. The research established that all the people interviewed understand the different forms of patriotism and many of them believe that patriotism begins with loving Buganda and the Kabaka.
The researcher concluded that Buddo Secondary School music has done a tremendous role to the promotion of Buganda patriotism since it is loved and listened to by all people irrespective of the age. This therefore helps to promote patriotism among all the people in Buganda.
