Challenges Churches face in using drama for envangelisation

Abstract

This study aimed at assessing the challenges faced by churches in using drama for evangelization experiences at University Community Fellowship. The specific objectives were; to understand how drama is used in evangelization at University Community Fellowship to find out the advantages drama would be at University Community Fellowship , to identify the challenges faced by the church when sing drama, and to find out how can the identified challenges be solved at University Community Fellowship . The youth had started not be in church yet they need churches to shape their lives however dramatizing the scriptures was used as a way to attract youth to the church because drama unites people and serves an equation value between the congregation and the clergy hence there was need to increase the dramatization of scriptures to attract and maintain the youth in the church. The respondents were purposively selected because they were members of the drama team at UCF and had viable information to complete this study. Data were collected using structured in-depth interview guides and questionnaires that were applied purposively to selected informants. The study findings indicate that dramatizing scriptures helps to drive the sermon home, drama acts as an ice breaker to the congregants before the sermon, summarizes the sermon and the scriptures to make the sermon lively, educative and creates a lasting impression on the minds of the congregants. Recommendations include; increasing and providing more time for drama since it is helping to gather the youth to the church and also to be careful when dramatizing evangelizations not to make a mistake of miss communication and the congregation gets a message which was not the intention therefore
