dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to analyze the portrayal of child characters in Luganda folktales. By examining the cultural values and social dynamics reflected in these stories, the research aims to provide insights into the role of children in Luganda society and shed light on the messages and lessons conveyed through these folktales. The study explores the cultural values and societal expectations surrounding children in the Luganda community. It examines how these values are reflected in the portrayal of child characters in folktales. The research investigates the importance placed on obedience and respect for authority figures such as parents and elders. It explores how disobedience is portrayed and the consequences associated with it. The research explores the depiction of gender roles in Luganda folktales, specifically concerning child characters. It investigates the expectations placed on boys and girls and how they are portrayed in terms of their characteristics and abilities. Understanding the portrayal of child characters in Luganda folktales holds several important implications. Firstly, it provides insights into the cultural values, social norms, and expectations surrounding children in the Luganda community. This understanding contributes to cross-cultural knowledge and promotes cultural appreciation. Secondly, the research sheds light on the messages and lessons conveyed through these folktales. By examining how obedience, respect, problem- solving, and intergenerational relationships are emphasized, the study highlights the values that the Luganda community seeks to instill in children. Analysis of the importance placed on obedience and respect for authority figures in Luganda folktales, along with the associated consequences of disobedience. Examination of the portrayal of problem-solving skills and resilience of child characters in overcoming challenges in Luganda folktales. Exploration of the depiction of gender roles in Luganda folktales concerning child characters, including the expectations placed on boys and girl.
