dc.description.abstract | Boda boda Transportation Service has grown from small beginnings in the
1960s to now approximately 200,000 riders and over 5,000 stages just in the
Central Business District (CBD) of Kampala. Unlike the taxi or vans, boda
bodas do not have to follow speci c major routes, they just take the shortest
convenient route to the passengers' destination. To beat the alarming tra c
jam that is not getting any better in the city, one takes a boda boda. All
these are time saving factors, making boda bodas a preference especially in
case of urgency, despite their nickname of death-on-wheels(Naddumba, 2008).
The boda boda business is one where a person is almost certainly assured
of making some money enough to feed their family. Despite its growth, this
business is faced with challenges, among which being high fuel rates (a litre
goes at UGX 4,180, which is equivalent to USD 1.10 per litre) which deeply
a ects the welfare of its operators(Galukande, Jombwe, Fualal, & Gakwaya,
