The research was conducted to study informal road reserve activities and their impact on the smooth flow of traffic in Kampala city a case study of Kafumbe Mukasa road reserve. This was so because informal activities which also tend to operate along the road reserve for easy access to markets are one of the biggest challenges in the city as the city authority (KCCA) try to emphasize trade order as stated in the KCCA act of 2010. Because they tend to operate along the road reserve, it also means that there is away they also affect the flow of traffic. When the smooth flow of traffic is disrupted it tends to increase the competition at regional and local level of the city’s capital investment due to increase travel time and hence a loss of profitability to many businesses as employees tends to arrive late for work. However the activities along the road reserve tend to provide a crucial livelihood to most of the vulnerable urban poor. The study focused on basically five chapters as summarized below: • Chapter one .This chapter focused on the introduction and background of study, the problem in the area of study, the objectivities of the study, the research question to be answered by the researcher, scope of the study, and the significance of the study and definition of the key terms. • Chapter two. This chapter was basically about the existing literature that the researcher read about informal road reserve activities and their impact on the smooth flow of traffic. The literature read was global and they were based on the objectivities formulated by the researcher. • Chapter three. This chapter focuses on the methodologies that the researcher used in the study that is the research methods, the sample type, how the area of study was sampled, and data collection techniques. • Chapter four. This chapter presents and discusses the findings which were presented, analyzed and interpreted following the stated objectives. It presents and discusses the findings on the informal road reserve activities and their impacts on the smooth flow of traffic in Kampala using a case study of Kafumbe Mukasa road • Chapter five. This chapter presents a summary and a conclusion of what has been discussed in this study. It also makes the recommendations of what should be done but also enables the researcher to suggest area of further study in the research conducted.
