dc.description.abstractThis provides a summary of the whole dissertation compiled by the researcher. The aim of the study was to explore the factors contributing to increased domestic violence on women in Obutet village, Gogonyo County, Pallisa district. Understanding the causes and effects is very crucial for developing preventive measures. The objectives of the study were., To find out the socio-cultural influence contributing to increased domestic violence on women of Obutet village, Gogonyo county, Pallisa district., To examine the economic related factors contributing to increased domestic violence on women of Obutet village Gogonyo County, Pallisa district and to ascertain the effects of domestic violence on women of Obutet village, Gogonyo county, Pallisa district. A probability random sampling technique was employed for 40 primary respondents involved within Obutet village. This technique was used to access confidential information since the topic was very sensitive and people could not willingly participate if they were to be identified by other people who knew them as victims of domestic violence. Questionnaires were administered by the researcher and focus Group Discussions for women were carried out. Data collected included Socio-demographic characteristics, socio-cultural influences, economic related factors and effects of domestic violence on women of Obutet village, Gogonyo County, Pallisa district. The collected data was analyzed qualitatively by interpretation and explanation whereas quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS. The main socio-cultural cause of domestic violence according to the findings of the study was adultery/unfaithfulness reported by 95% of the respondents. The main economic cause on the other hand basing on the results of the study was unemployment reported by 82.5% of the respondents. The findings of the study further indicated that the major effects of domestic violence were physical injuries in which family breakup was mainly reported by 90% of the respondents. Basing on the results of the study, the researcher concluded that the main socio-cultural cause of domestic violence was adultery /unfaithfulness among partners in Obutet village while the main economic cause was unemployment. Similarly, the researcher concluded that the major effect of domestic violence was family breakup. The researcher further made a discussion and summary of the findings as well as conclusions and recommendations to the government, civil society, community and families. However, the cross cutting recommendation for all stakeholders was sensitization of the masses about the dangers of domestic violence and advocating for the strengthening of the existing laws while passing new ones.en_US
