ItemFactors associated with testing for HIV among youths (15-30) in Uganda(Makerere University, 2024) Abaho, Samantha KeisingaHIV remains a significant public health concern in Uganda, particularly among youths aged 15-30. Despite substantial efforts to combat the epidemic, testing rates in this demographic remain suboptimal. Understanding the factors influencing HIV testing behaviors is crucial for improving intervention strategies and increasing testing rates. HIV/AIDS continues to be a major public health issue in Uganda, with a significant impact on the younger population. Despite a broad range of prevention and treatment programs, the rate of HIV testing among youths aged 15-30 remains relatively low. This demographic is particularly vulnerable due to factors such as sexual behaviors, limited access to healthcare services, and social stigma associated with HIV. In Uganda, the HIV prevalence rate is notably high among youth, who often face unique barriers to accessing testing services. These barriers include lack of awareness about the importance of regular testing, fear of stigma and discrimination, and inadequate healthcare infrastructure in certain areas. Additionally, cultural norms and misconceptions about HIV can further deter young people from seeking testing and counseling services. This study seeks to provide a comprehensive analysis of the factors affecting HIV testing among youths in Uganda, highlighting the interplay of socio-demographic, behavioral, and systemic influences. By identifying these factors, the study aims to inform targeted strategies to enhance HIV testing rates and support the broader goal of reducing the incidence of HIV among young.
