The study aimed at examining the relationship between self-esteem, motivation and academic performance among students of Rukungiri High School. The study adopted a correlational research design with a population of 700 students from different classes. Simple random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 200 respondents from the population. Datta was collected from respondents using a self-administered standard questionnaire and through entering fully filled questionnaires into computer software program called statistical package for social sciences (SPPS) version 23, data was analysed. results from Pearson correlation (r) indicated that there was no significant relationship between self-esteem and student motivation, findings further revealed that self-esteem and academic performance were significantly and positively related. Accordingly, findings revealed that, there was no significant relationship between student motivation and academic performance. Since self-esteem is a psychological factor, it can be improved if families, society, friends and universities pay a closer attention to it which may ultimately improve academic performance among students. So, it is suggested that experts should hold counselling and dynamic meetings with students, families, and teachers in order to develop appropriate approaches that can be applied to increase students’ self esteem commensurate with their role in the society. Finally, academic performance of the students may in turn be enhanced.en_US
