    Stress, self esteem and coping strategies among adolescents in Wakiso District

    Abstract
    The main purpose of this research was to find out the relationship between stress, self-esteem and coping strategies among adolescents. The developed objectives of the study were “to find out the relationship between stress and self-esteem”, “to find out the relationship between self-esteem and coping strategies” and finally “to find out the relationship between stress and coping strategies. The study was carried out among 100 O-level students (adolescents) at London College Nansana. The study deployed a correlation research design to assess the relationship between stress, self-esteem and coping strategies. Data was transformed into statistical information using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) and Pearson Product Moment, Correlation Coefficient (r) to find out whether the variables were correlating. Therefore, according to the analyzed data, the study observed, concluded and highlight that, there was no statistically significant relationship between stress and self-esteem. The study further revealed that there was no significant relationship between self-esteem and coping strategies, and finally, the study found out that there is no statistically significant relationship between stress and coping strategies among adolescents. Additionally, research recommended that the concerned authorities encompassing head teachers, Ministry of Health and parents should develop and implement systematic programs that aim at building students’ confidence at their respective school, this may include for example counselling sessions where students can disclose their experience and get professional help.
