    Stress, anxiety and self-esteem of adolescents in Buyera Wakiso district

    Abstract
    The study aimed at examining the relationship between stress, anxiety and self-esteem of adolescents in Buyera, Wakiso District. Objectives include; examining the relationship between stress and self-esteem, anxiety and self-esteem; and also stress and anxiety. The study adopted a quantitative approach, used across-sectional and correlational research design, data was collected using questionnaires and these were administered to a sample of 80 respondents from Wakisa Ministries a Pregnancy Crisis Centre using a sample random sampling technique. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences and two levels of analysis were generally employed; the descriptive analysis was used to examine the distribution of the variables while inferential test was utilized in the test of hypothesis. Hypothesis testing 1 revealed a significant negative relationship between stress and self-esteem; Hypothesis testing 2 found a significant negative relationship between anxiety and self-esteem of adolescents; hypothesis testing 3 indicated significant positive relationships between stress and anxiety among adolescents. The study concluded that the higher the levels of stress, the higher the level of anxiety among adolescents. The study further concluded that an increase in level of anxiety leads to lower levels of self-esteem among adolescents. The study also concluded that an increase in level of stress leads to lower self-esteem. The study recommended that to effectively manage stress and anxiety, adolescents can be helped by teachers, parents, relatives and the community stakeholders through use of cognitive, affective and behavioral strategies
