dc.description.abstractThe study examined the relationship between Gender Based Violence and mental health problems among women A Case study; Abim District, Kiru Town Council. The study adopted a quantitative approach and correlation research design with a population of 70 women. Simple random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 59 respondents from the population. Data was collected from respondents using self-administered standard questionnaire and entered in the computer for analysis through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 23. Descriptive statistics showed that 100% of the respondents were female, majority were between 30-49 years (28.8%). Results from percentages indicated there are high levels of Gender Based Violence (57.6%), and high levels of mental health problems (55.9%). Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r) further indicated that there was a significant positive relationship between Gender Based Violence and mental health problems, (r=.941**, p=.000). Participants reported that alcohol unit admits women for mental illness (57.6%) due to alcohol consumption, 86 % of women experience mental health problems like depression and stress in Abim District, Kiru Town Council.
