Occupational stress, employee attitude and job performance of Makerere University employees
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between occupational stress, employee attitude and job performance among Makerere University Employees. The study was intending to achieve the following objectives; to examine the relationship between stress and employee attitude, occupational stress and job performance and finally to examine the relationship between employee attitude and job performance. A correlational study design was used in the study to establish the relationship between Occupational stress, employee attitude and job performance among employees of Makerere University. The study used a sample of 80 respondents who were adopted using simple sampling technique. Data was therefore collected using self-administered questionnaire and later analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists.
In conclusion, the findings show that the relationship between Occupational stresses is statistically significant (p= 0.000, r= 0.526). Furthermore, findings show that that the relationship between Occupational stress and Job performance is statistically significant (p=0.000, r=0.653). Lastly, the findings also showed that the relationship between Employee Attitude and job performance is statistically significant (p=0.000, r=0.522). Later it was recommended that the government, different organizations and companies need to put up measures of reducing stress at work for employees to be committed to their jobs.
