Socio-demographic Attributes, Performance Appraisal attitudes and Workplace Performance among Makerere University support staff
Abstract
Workplace Performance is a major issue in an organization due to high level of
inefficiencies in the discharge of their duties by the employees due to poor infrastructure,
inadequate logistics and equipment; poor remuneration and insufficient reward system have
always led to the low level of public confidence and respect in the local government. The study
therefore aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the Performance Appraisal on Workplace
Performance in among Makerere University support staff.
The objectives of the study were to; to find out the relationship between Sociodemographic attributes and Performance Appraisal attitudes, to find out the relationship between
Socio-demographic attributes and Workplace Performance and to find out the relationship between
Performance Appraisal attitudes and Workplace Performance.
The study involved the application of descriptive survey design. For this study, the design
enabled the researcher to collect data from a sample of the population in order to describe the
relationship between Socio-demographic attributes, Performance Appraisal attitudes and
Workplace performance in Makerere University. This research design allowed the researcher to
study the impact of Performance Appraisal on workplace Performance among Makerere
University support staff.
The study found out that the Makerere University is assessed once a year, especially
at the end of the year. The study concluded Performance Appraisal is performed once a year.
Apart from that department, it is also responsible for setting the performance standards of the
planning department, the department integrates with other departments (involving stakeholders)
to give them awareness of the issue and to achieve the desired goals.
