Depression, drug use and risky sexual behaviors among adolescents in Kampala City Authority

Abstract

This research found was carried out to investigate whether there is a significant relationship between Depression, Drug use and Risky sexual behavior among Adolescents in Kampala Capital city Authority. The specific objective of the study was to examine the significant relationship between Depression, Drug use and Risky sexual behavior among adolescents. The study was had 105 respondents who were randomly selected from S.2 and S.4 who were classes at Kajjansi Progressive Senior Secondary School. Self-determined questionnaires were used in data collection and the data was analyzed using Statistical Software Package for Social Sciences(SPSS). Pearson's product correlations was used to determine the significance of relationship s among variables. The findings show that there is a significant relationship between Risky sexual Behavior and drug use (r = 344**, P = 000). Furthermore, the findings also showed there is a negative relationship between depression and drug use (r = -.191, P = 0.51). The findings also concluded there is a negative a negative relationship between depression and Risky sexual Behaviors.(r = -203, P = 0.38). Therefore the research found that high levels of drug use in adolescents significantly predict risky sexual behavior and it has been a full intermediary effect on depression.
