dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between workload, motivation and career stagnation among lecturers of public universities in Uganda. The study aimed to achieve the following objectives; to investigate the relationship between Workload and Career Stagnation, to examine the relationship between Workload and Motivation, to establish the relationship between Motivation and Career Stagnation. A cross sectional survey design using quantitative approach was adopted and data was collected from a sample of 100 lecturers from Bugema and Makerere University. Data was collected from respondents using a self –administered questionnaire and through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) data was analyzed. Descriptive statistics showed that majority were male (63.2%) and the least respondents were female with (35.8%). Majority of the respondent lecturers’ were aged 30-29 years (39.9%) and 53.3% of the respondent lecturers were from Makerere University. Results from correlation further indicated that there was no significant relationship between workload and career stagnation, a significant positive relationship between workload and intrinsic motivation and workload and extrinsic motivation, a significant positive relationship between A motivation and Career stagnation, personal life and work stagnation. There was also a significant positive relationship between extrinsic motivation and career stagnation, personal life and work stagnation. There was no significant relationship between intrinsic motivation and career stagnation, personal life and work stagnation. The findings of this study provide several recommendations to employers and governmental and non-governmental that will contribute to organizational motivation and reduce career stagnation.en_US
