| dc.description.abstract | There is an increase in concern over peer pressure and risky sexual behaviour among university students. The study sought to establish the relationships between peer pressure, self-esteem, and risky sexual behaviour among university students. The study was conducted at Makerere University and adopted a quantitative research approach with the correlation method to determine the relationships between variables. It comprised of 209 undergrad students (123 female and 86 male) who were randomly selected and the study was analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS) version 22. The self-administered questionnaire was distributed to all students. The results indicated significant relationships between peer pressure and risky sexual behaviour (r =.436**, p = .000<0.01), self-esteem and risky sexual behaviour (r = -137*, p =0.47<0.05), and peer pressure and self-esteem (r = -.300**, p =.000<0.01). The study indicated that an increase in peer pressure was associated with more risky sexual behaviour, especially among students with low self-esteem. | en_US |
