Emotional regulation, social relationships and depression among adolescents
Abstract
The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between Emotional regulation, Social
Relationship and Depression among the Adolescents in Kampala. The study targeted 244
respondents, 134 males and 110 females aged 14-19 years. It used a quantitative correlation study
design which was adopted to establish the relationship between variables. Questionnaires were
given to the 244 respondents and collected data was analyzed using a statistical package for social
sciences to test the hypotheses. Pearson product moment correlation Coefficient test was used to
test the hypotheses results showed that there is a significant relationship between emotional
regulation and social relationships, r(N=244) = .189, p= 0.003. Emotional regulation and
depression have no relationship, r (N=244) = .24, p= 0.114. The results also show that there is no
relationship between social relationships and depression, r (N=244) = .101, p= 0.705. Results were.
found through using purposive technique to select respondents to produce presentative results.
Instruments of Emotional regulation questionnaire (ERE) social relation support for education
(SRSE) and patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ9) were used to collect proper data about emotion
regulation, social relationships and depression among adolescents
