dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between career optimism,motivation and career stagnation among lecturers of public universities in Uganda. The intention of the study was to obtain the following objectives: To pinpoint the cause of career stagnation among lecturers. To find out if there’s a significant relationship between career optimism and career stagnation among university lecturers. To find out if there’s a significant relationship between motivation and career stagnation among university lecturers. A cross sectional survey design using quantitative approach was adopted and data was collected from a sample of 100 lecturers from Bugema and Makerere University. Data was collected from respondents using a self -administered questionnaire and through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) data was analyzed. Descriptive statistics showed that majority were male with 59.2% and the minority respondents were female with 39.6%. Majority of the respondent lecturers were aged 40-49 years 37.8% and 56.0% of the respondent lecturers were from Makerere University. The results from correlation further showed that there was indeed a significant positive relationship between career optimism and career stagnation, a significant positive relationship between career optimism and motivation , lastly a significant positive relationship between amotivation and career stagnation, extrinsic motivation and career stagnation however there was a significant negative relationship between intrinsic motivation and career stagnation. The research from this study provided several recommendations to employers and employees that will contribute to the growth of the organization will contribute to organizational motivation and reduce career stagnation.en_US
