Drug substance abuse, depression and psychosocial competence among Makerere university students in Kampala district

The study aimed at examining the relationships between drug substance Abuse, depression and psychosocial competence among students in Makerere University. The study adopted a descriptive and a Person’s Correlation research design and a sample of 136 students among halls in Makerere University. Data was analyzised using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and the Statistical tools which was used to test the hypothesis. The researchers used 136 students whereby 57 students were in female halls and the 89 students were in male students of Makerere University. We used the random sampling technique which was quantitative in nature and a non-random technique which was a qualitative and was guided by the interviews. The study recommended that universities shall design alcohol and drug policy that governs the overall process of alcohol and drug related issues so as to reduce the easy exposure of students to alcohol and drug substance abuse.
