dc.description.abstractBackground: Employee retention has still proved to be a major challenge in Makerere University. Most studies have focused on teaching staffs and little is still known about the inf luence of work environment on retention on non- academic staffs of Makerere University. This study attempted establish the relationship between work environment and employee retention among non- academic staffs of Makerere University. Method: This was a cross sectional study with a correlation design. Random sampling was used to select study participants and self - answering of the questionnaire was done. This study interviewed a total of 327 non- teaching staffs of Makerere university. Pearson correlation analysis was done to assess the relationship between work environment and employee retention among the study participants. Results: The participants had a good work environment as the mean score f or work environment was 4.010 + 0.393 points. There was good employee retention, as the intention to stay in the job was 4.069+0.028 points. The work environment of the participants has moderate correlation with employee retention (Pearson correlation coefficient=0.561). This association was significant at 95% C.I (P<0.05). Conclusion: Both the work environment and work retention of non- teaching staffs were good. Work environment significantly inf luence employee retentionen_US
