Psychological Contract and Job Satisfaction of Secondary School Teachers in Kampala District

Abstract

The study sought to find out the relationship between psychological contract and job satisfaction among secondary school teachers in Kampala district. The study intended to achieve the following objectives, to examine the levels of psychological contract, to determine the levels of job satisfaction and finally to find out the relationship between psychological contract and job satisfaction. A correlational study design was used in the study to establish the relationship between the two variables. The study used a total sample of 174 respondents who were subjected to simple random sampling technique of sampling. Data was then collected using self-administered questionnaires. The researcher analyzed data using statistical package for social scientist version 23 (SPSS) and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used to test the hypothesis. The levels of psychological contract were found to be high. Results revealed fairly high levels of job satisfaction. Findings also revealed that there is a non-significant relationship between psychological contract and job satisfaction (r=.-032, p>0.05) and, the levels of psychological contract and job satisfaction among secondary school teachers are relatively and fairly high respectively. There is relatively no significant relationship between the two variables. Several policies should be drafted by line ministry (education and sports) to support teachers’ well-being.
