dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between workload, motivation and counterproductive workplace behaviors amongst university lecturers in public and private universities. This study aimed to achieve the following objectives; to investigate the relationship between workload and Motivation, to examine the relationship between workload and counterproductive workplace behaviors, to establish the relationship between motivation and counterproductive workplace behavior. A cross sectional research design using quantitative approach was adopted and data was collected from a sample of 30 lectures from any one public and private university. Data analysis was done using the computer data analysis program known as statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The researcher used the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) to test the hypothesis. Findings revealed no significant relationship between workload and Amotivation which implied that workload does not influence Amotivation, a positive relationship between workload and Extrinsic motivation which implied that workload has an influence on Extrinsic motivation, a positive relationship between workload and Intrinsic motivation which implied that workload has an influence on Intrinsic motivation, a negative relationship between workload and counterproductive workplace behaviors which implied that workload influences the occurance of counterproductive workplace behaviors, a positive relationship between Amotivation and counterproductive workplace behaviors which implied that Amotivation influences the occurance of counterproductive workplace behaviors, no significant relationship between Amotivation and Intrinsic motivation which implied that workload has no influence on Intrinsic motivation, a positive relationship between Extrinsic motivation and Intrinsic motivation which implied that Extrinsic motivation influence Intrinsic motivation, no significant relationship between Extrinsic motivation and counterproductive workplace behaviors which implied that Extrinsic motivation has no influence on Counterproductive workplace behavior and a negative relationship between Intrinsic motivation and counterproductive workplace behaviors which implied that Intrinsic motivation has an influence on Counterproductive workplace behaviors. The researcher recommended that researchers should explore further on the in-depth of the influence of workload on motivation and counterproductive workplace behaviors as well as the influence on motivation on Counterproductive workplace behaviors and further focus on the fact of each variable and how they are associated.en_US
