Personality, self-efficacy and critical thinking among University students

Abstract

This report is about the research that was carried out in Makerere University, is located in Kampala-Uganda. A total number of students 1753 from the four schools under the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The variables considered in the study were personality which include agreeableness, extraversion, conscientiousness and openness to experience. Self-efficacy is a skill referred to as an individual’s belief in his or her capacity to execute behaviors necessary to produce specific attainment (Bandura 1977, 1986 and 1997).and critical thinking which is the ability to think clearly and rationally about what to do and what to believe. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether there was a relationship between personality, self-efficacy and critical thinking among Makerere University students. Questionnaires were used as tools of data collection from the students who were the respondents. The findings after data analysis was that there was no significant relationship between personality and self-efficacy, the second was that there was a significant relationship between personality and critical thinking. The last finding was that was no significant relationship between self-efficacy and critical thinking.
