dc.description.abstractThis study was aimed at investigating the impact of motivation on employee satisfaction and job performance taking a case study of Hotel Africana .The total number of respondents was 50 and the principal methods of data collection were interviews, focused group discussions and questionnaires. Data was analyzed using description and percentages. The study established that there are a number of theories of motivation which include; Hertzberg Theory , Maslow’s Theory, Fredrick Winslow Taylor Theory, Theory x and theory Y ( Douglas Mc Gregory), Goal setting theory, Reinforcement Theory, Expectancy theory, Process Theory, Mc Clelland’s Three Needs theory among others among others . The study also established that there a number of benefits of motivation on employee satisfaction and job performance which include; Improves relationship between management and employees, Motivation leads to commitment of employees to their work, improved employee satisfaction, ongoing employee development, improved employee efficiency, lower levels of absenteeism, lower levels of staff turnover, great reputation and stronger recruitment, among others . The study also established the following as the influences of financial and non financial incentives on employee satisfaction and job performance and that these include; a good working culture and environment, working conditions, employee engagement, performance appraisal, job security , training among others. The study also established the following as the challenges organizations face as they implement motivation in order to enhance employee satisfaction and job performance and that these include; The level at which employees should be motivated, when to motivate employees, type of motivation employees should be given, size of the organization a among others. Lastly the research also established the following as the various ways of how motivation can be improved in order to enhance employee satisfaction and job performance and that these include; lead with vision, make sure everyone understands the ‘why’, set frequent clear targets, recognize great work, give your team autonomy , create a welcoming work environment, offer impressive benefits, encourage teamwork, create a career path, improve communication, value individual contributions among others.en_US
