Fear of loss during COVID-19, mental health and quality of life among business owners
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between fear of loss during COVID-19, mental health and quality of life. The study employed the use of cross-sectional study design with a sample size of one hundred forty respondents. Fear of Loss was measured using five- point Likert scales from “not at all fearful’ to very much fearful”. Items for measuring are adopted by Collins (2007), Mental Health was measured using a 12- item instrument designed to measure mental health problem was designed by Mukibi (2021), and Quality of Life was measured using impact of event scale (IES) by Kathryn Hyper PhD. Lisa M. Brown Ph Scale. Data was analyzed using a statistically packed for social science (SPSS) version 25. The findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between Fear of Loss and Mental Health, there was a significant relationship between Mental Health and Quality of life. Furthermore, the findings portrayed that there was less significant relationship between Fear of Loss and Quality of Life.Therefore, business owners should do business orientation and make connections that will benefit them in situation of financial hardship and family support. Furthermore, students and other researchers should carry out further research on the variables in the study. This will generate more information about the variables in the study.
