dc.description.abstractThe study assessed the relationship between self esteem and intimacy among university students at Makerere University. It specifically identified the level of self-esteem of University Students, the factors affecting self esteem and intimacy among university students, and the relationship between relationship between self esteem and intimacy among university students at Makerere University. This study underpinned the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) which assumes that human behaviour is predicted by a matching intention. The most widely known model is the Interpersonal Process Model of Intimacy. According to this model, intimacy increases when an individual discloses their personal thoughts or emotions (i.e., self-disclosure) to their partner, the partner responds supportively, and the partner’s response is perceived by the discloser as validating and caring. The study used a quantitative research approach. The study considered a cross-sectional study which involved looking at data from a population at one specific point in time. In this study, the target population included 100 respondents comprising both male and female students at Makerere University by the study period. A sample size of 80 respondents was selected from a target population of 100 students at Makerere University. The study used a simple random sampling technique. Descriptive and inferential statistics will be used in conducting data analysis. Findings on the relationship between self esteem and intimacy among university students showed that self esteem has a positive and significant relationship on the level of intimacy with a correlation of 0.845 and a significant level of = 0.01. From the results, it means that self esteem has a statistically strong influence on the level of intimacy among Makerere University students suggesting that when self esteem is high, the level of intimacy among male and female students. Chapter 4 and 5 include the findings and recommendations and conclusion of the study.en_US
