Stress, Depression and Coping Strategies among adolescents in Wakiso District
Abstract
The dissertation aimed at investigating the relationship between stress, depression and coping strategies among adolescents. The study adopted a quantitative research design with a correlation method to investigate this relationship. A sample of 100 students were selected to participate in this study. Data obtained was then analyzed using statistical package for social scientist version 23.
The results from this study indicated that there was no relationship between stress and depression (.839>0.05). The results also showed that relationship between stress and coping strategies (.003<0.05). Finally, the study results indicated that there is relationship between depressions and coping strategies among adolescents (.004<0.05).
Basing on the finding the adolescents who manifest depressive symptoms are most likely to employ coping strategies as compared to adolescents with no depressive symptoms who are more likely to employ poor coping strategies.
Thus, this study recommends that the school administration should put in place psycho-social programs to aid adolescents with positive coping strategies.
