Stress, depression and substance abuse among adolescents

Abstract

The dissertation aimed at investigating the relationship between Stress, Depression and Substance Abuse among Adolescents. The study adopted a quantitative research design with a correlation method to investigate this relationship. A sample of 200 were selected to participate in this study. Data obtained was then analyzed using statistical package for social scientist version 23. The results from this study indicated that there was a significant between stress and depression among the adolescents. The results also showed that there was between a significant relationship between depression and substance abuse among the adolescents Finally, the study results indicated that there is relationship between significant relationship between stress and substance abuse among the adolescents Basing on the finding the adolescents who manifest depressive symptoms are most likely to employ coping strategies as compared to adolescents with no depressive symptoms who are more likely to employ poor coping strategies.
