Time management, critical thinking and job success among employees of secondary schools in Kampala Central

Abstract

This study was carried out to examine and explore the relationship between time management, critical thinking and job success among employees of Secondary Schools in Kampala Central. Three specific objectives were set to help in the examination of the relationship between time management, critical thinking and job success among employees of Secondary Schools in Kampala Central. A quantitative, cross sectional and correlation research design was used in the study so as to establish the relationship being examined. Both stratified and simple random sampling were used, the former on art and science teachers while the latter was used to obtain respondents from both the art and science teachers. Questionnaires were used in the study as data collection tools and were distributed to the target respondents (schools and respective teachers) who totaled to 186. This sample size was determined using Krejcie & Morgan’s table. Out of the 186 respondents, more responses were contributed by two groups; those of the 25-29 age group (30.1%) and the female gender (54.7%). The research findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between; time management and critical thinking; time management and job success; critical thinking and job success at p<0.05 using Pearson Rank Correlation Coefficient as a statistical test. From the findings of this study, it is imperative that time be considered as a golden resource and where employers feel that their employees are not managing time in a proper way, time management trainings should be established not only in schools but other institutions such as hospitals, government organizations and even private organizations.
