Academic stress and its impact on students’ depression level and academic performance at Kampala International University
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between stress and students’ academic performance among students at Kampala International University. The study was intended to achieve the following objectives; to examine the relationship between academic stress, students’ depression levels and academic performance among students of Kampala International University. A correlational study was used to establish the relationship between the variables. The study used a sample of 86 respondents who were selected using simple random sampling technique.
Data was collected using self- administered questionnaire and later was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists. Findings indicated that there is a significant negative relationship between students depression levels and academic performance since (r = .557**, p < 0.01), a positive significant relationship between academic stress and depression levels since (r = .238*, p < 0.05) and a non-significant relationship between academic stress and academic performance since (r = -.010, p > 0.05).
