| dc.description.abstract | This study investigated the relationship between domestic violence, self-esteem and coping strategies among adolescents in Lira district. The main objectives were to examine the relationship between domestic violence and coping strategies, the relationship between domestic violence and self-esteem and the relationship between self-esteem and coping strategies among adolescents. The study encompassed 100 participants, randomly selected, comprising 56 females and 44 males. Data collection was facilitated through the administration of questionnaires, and subsequent analysis was conducted using SPSS/PASW.
The findings revealed, contrary to initial expectations, a significant relationship between domestic violence and coping strategies, suggesting that adolescents exposed to such circumstances tend to develop specific mechanisms to navigate the associated stress and trauma, no significant correlation was found between domestic violence and self-esteem. This implies that additional factors may influence self-esteem in the context of domestic violence. Additionally, no significant relationship emerged between self-esteem and coping strategies, highlighting the complex interplay of psychological dynamics in this population. The study underscores the urgency for tailored interventions and support structures for adolescents impacted by domestic violence. Recommendations include the implementation of comprehensive school-based support programs, community education on domestic violence, and advocacy for policies safeguarding the rights and well-being of affected adolescents. | en_US |
