Stress, alcohol abuse and alcoholism relapse among readmitted alcoholics
Abstract
The major purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between stress, alcohol abuse and relapse among alcoholics readmitted at Serenity Rehabilitation Centre. The specific objectives of the study were to determine the relationship between stress and alcohol abuse among alcoholics readmitted at Serenity Rehabilitation Centre, to determine the relationship between stress and relapse to alcohol abuse among alcoholics readmitted at Serenity Rehabilitation Centre and to examine the relationship between relapse and alcohol abuse among alcoholics readmitted at Serenity Rehabilitation Centre.
The study adopted correlation research design because it is a specific type of non-experimental design used to describe the relationship between or among variables. The correlation research design was used to measure relationship between stress, alcohol abuse and relapse among alcoholics readmitted at Serenity Rehabilitation Centre. Data was presented into statistical information using statistical package for social scientists (SPSS) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) to establish whether the variables were correlated. So the researcher observed and concluded that it is important to note that, the study revealed that there was a significant relationship stress and alcohol abuse among alcoholics, the study then revealed that there was a positive significant relationship between stress and relapse to alcohol abuse among alcoholics and the study finally revealed that there was a significant relationship between relapse and alcohol abuse among alcoholics readmitted at Serenity Rehabilitation Centre. The study recommended that there is there is a positive relationship between stress and alcohol abuse among alcoholics. Therefore, exposure to stressful events may increase the chances of a man using alcohol or exhibiting alcohol-related problems.
