| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between socio-economic status, peer
influence and substance abuse among adolescents. A correlational study design that is quantitative
was adopted to establish the both the relationship between the variables of which they were
selected randomly. A total of 112 respondents, both male and female participated in the study.
Data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), where a Pearson
correlation coefficient (r) was used to test the significance of the hypotheses. The study results
revealed that there was there is a negative statistical significant relationship between socioeconomic status and substance abuse among adolescents; was is no significant relationship
between socio-economic status and peer influence among adolescents, furthermore results
revealed that there was no significant relationship between peer influence and substance abuse
