dc.description.abstract | Employees in the sugar industry are exposed to many hazards at their workplace and this is likely to influence their levels of job satisfaction and performance if the correct measures are not put in place by their employers. The most affected employees are those who work in factory and agriculture departments (field services and production). The objective of this study was to determine the perceived influence of occupational health safety practices on job satisfaction and performance among employees of Kakira Sugar Works. The research design was a cross-sectional survey design and a structured questionnaire was used to collect data which was analyzed using descriptive statistics including percentages, means and standard deviations. Correlation analysis was also used to determine the influence of occupational health and safety practices on job satisfaction. A targeted of 100 respondents were invited to participate in the study that was 80% of the total population. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS), Pearson Correlation coefficient (r) was used to test the relationships.
The findings show that occupational healthy safety practices and job satisfaction are popositively and not significantly related at 0.05 (r=648, p>0.05). Furthermore the findings show that job satisfaction and employee performance are positively and not significantly related at 0.05 (r=636, p> 0.05). How ever the findings show that occupational healthy safety practices and employee performance are positively and significantly related at 0.05 (r=013, p>0.05). But it was recommended that the organization should promote safety training programs with the major aim of enabling workers acquire attitudes, knowledge and skills which helps them reduce the perceived risk of their jobs.
It was also recommended that the organization should over focus on promoting employee job performance as the key indicator of acquiring organizational goals.This is because when employees who are not satisfied with their jobs can be negatively affected by Occupational health and safety which means that if there is lack of high performance in jobs the organizational performance also gets affected hence also affecting the overall organization performance. | en_US |
