Peer pressure, stress and substance abuse among adolescents in kyebando zone
Abstract
This study aimed at finding out the relationship between peer pressure, stress and substance abuse among adolescents in Kyebando zone, Kawempe division. The study employed 80 respondents who were both male and female aged between 12-23. Respondents were selected by use of simple random sampling strategy. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires and was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 20). Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient (rs) was used to test the significance of the hypotheses. Results from the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between peer pressure and stress among adolescents (rs=.487, p=000<0.01), as well as stress and substance abuse among adolescents (rs=.453,p=.000<0.01), results also revealed a significant relationship between peer pressure and substance abuse among adolescents (rs=.645,p=000<0.01).
