dc.description.abstract | The study was aimed at finding the relationship between stress, peer pressure and substance abuse among adolescents in Kawempe division. It targeted 100 adolescents, 50 males and 50 females aged 18-25 years of age from used entire Katanga slums population. The researcher used simple random during the period of data collection. The objective of the study were to examine the relationship between stress and substance abuse among adolescents in Katanga slums out of schools to examine the relationship between peer pressure and substance abuse among adolescents in Katanga slums out of school, to examine the relationship between stress and peer pressure among adolescents in Katanga slums out of school. The perceived stress scale by Sheldon Cohen, Kamarck and Mermelstein, 1983 was used to measure stress, the peer pressure inventory by Brown to measure peer pressure and the substance abuse questionnaire (SAS – national drug authority Uganda, 2013). For substance abuse the hypotheses were tested using the Pearson correlation coefficient. The study results showed that there is no significant relationship between stress and substance abuse among adolescents (r= -.005, P= .959) results showed there is no significant relationship between stress and peer pressure and substance abuse among adolescents (r = -.222*, P = .027). | en_US |
