dc.description.abstractThe study was carried out with the aim of identifying the levels of student engagement, Motivation and Academic performance among secondary school students. The study used a descriptive research survey design where by qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The sample population included both male and female students. The study involved 49 respondents who were students of St John ’s Secondary school Mukono. Data was collected mainly through the use of administered questionnaires. The findings revealed that student engagement is not significantly related to motivation due to the difficulties in learning, external events, rebellion, boredom and peer pressure. Motivation does not influence academic performance because students often feel detached from their actions that cause them lack motivation to complete their task. Student engagement has no significant relationship with academic performance implying that student engagement beliefs do not affect academic performance. It was recommended that Parents, relatives, guardians and other care takers should take an active role in providing their children with favorable psychological and emotional environment at home first so they will grow up with a strong sense of engagement, motivation which will enable them to augur in academic pursuits.en_US
