Occupational health and safety, job satisfaction and employee performance at National Water and Sewerage Corporation (Kampala Water)

Abstract

The study aimed at examining the relationship between occupational health and safety, job satisfaction and employee’s performance among employees of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), Kampala Road Branch. The study adopted a correlational survey design with a population of employees from different departments. Systematic random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 52 respondents from a population of 75 employees. Data was collected from respondents using self-administered standard questionnaires and through entering fully filled questionnaires into computer software program called Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23, data was analyzed. Results from Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r) indicated that there was a significant positive relationship between occupational health and safety and job satisfaction; there was a significant positive relationship between occupational health and safety and job performance. There was a significant positive relationship between job satisfaction and job performance. Based on these findings it can be recommended that that employer should provide safe working environment since feeling safe at workplace can significantly influence job satisfaction and employee performance.
