The impact of leadership style on employee involvement and performance

The overall purpose of this study sought to determine the relationship between leadership, employee involvement and performance in Kampala Capital City Authority. The objectives of the study were; To investigate the effect of corporate style of leadership style on employee involvement in Kampala Capital City Authority. To establish the effect of the employee involvement on performance of the Kampala Capital City Authority. To analyze the effect of the leadership style on the performance Kampala Capital City Authority. The questionnaires were self-administered and structured. The hypothesis states that corporate leadership styles and employee performance are significantly related. The results in the table 10 show that there is no significant relationship between corporate leadership style and employee performance. The second hypothesis stated that leadership styles and employee performance are significantly related. The results in table 11 above show that leadership styles i.e. laissez faire style and employee performance are not significantly related. The hypothesis states that leadership styles and employee performance are significantly related, however results in table 12 above show that authoritative leadership and employee performance are not significantly related. The hypothesis states that there is a significant relationship between employee performance and employee involvement. The results in the table 13 show that there is a negative relationship between the two variables. The leadership style has a great impact on the employee performance and involvement in the organization activities. Good leadership will yield better employee performance and involvement within the organization. Leaders should reconsider delegation of powers and office to suitable subordinates and as well set meaningful targets for the entire organization. Too much freedom accorded to the employees will not amount to high levels of performance and so does too much supervision. Therefore, moderate freedom and supervision are advised to be granted in the work place to ensure effective utilization of human resources and high levels of performance.
