Effects of child abuse on behavioral and intellectual development of children in Wakiso Ddistrict
Abstract
This study examined theteacher’s perspective of how Child Abuse affects the Behavioral and Intellectual Development of Children”. The Case of Wakiso Sub-County under the main objectiveof establishing how child abuse affects the behavior and academic performance of children in Wakiso district. It was carried out using a descriptive cross-sectional survey design to collect and thematically analyze data.
The findings of the research indicated that teachers are in fact cognizant of the child abuse practices happening in the research study area. The teachers’ testimonies also exposed how child abuse affects the behavior of the children and therefore their intellectual development.
The study concluded that, different stake holders should consider establishing and financing guidance and counseling departments in schools to help abused children. Further the studyconcluded that teachers should be helped to attend specialized training in guidance and counseling to acquire advanced knowledge, skills, and techniques to comply in tandem to ever evolving child abuse cases if they are to effectively and efficiently execute their day today obligations in helping abused children.
The study concluded that, various stake holders shoulduphold and tighten laws regarding child abuse to apprehend child abusers and bring them to books to be charged with heavy punishments as a deterrent measure.
