Peer Pressure, Substance abuse and delinquent behavior among the adolescents in Kitante High School
Abstract
Many adolescents are still thought to be behaving delinquently in the society which is brought about by the alternating levels of substance abuse which has been attributed to the peer pressure from their friends. This research sought to examine the relationship between peer pressure, substance abuse and delinquent behaviours among adolescents. A correlational study design that is quantitative and descriptive was adopted to establish the relationship between the variables. A total of 100 respondents, both male and female participated in the study. Data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), where Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r) was used to test the significance of the hypotheses. The study revealed that there was a significant relationship between peer pressure and delinquent behaviours among adolescents; the study also revealed that there was a significant relationship between peer pressure and substance abuse among adolescents.
