Social support, coping and suicidal ideation among PLWHA attending care at Lira Regional Referral Hospital
Abstract
The goal of this research study was to gain insight on the levels of social support, coping and suicidal ideation for PLWHA receiving care at Lira Referral Main Hospital. Participants for this study were mainly PLWHA receiving care at the ART clinic during the period of July and August 2019. The study sample of 100 participants were on Anti-Retroviral treatment, the sample consisted of 21.4% men and 70% women, and the average age of participants was 15-49 years, the participants involved in out-hospital care consisted of 51% and in-hospital care consisted of 49%.
The highest scores of the dependent and independent variables were all significant to each other and such high scores indicated higher degrees of social support, coping and also suicidal thoughts thus putting one at a lower risk of harming one's self.
