dc.description.abstractThe study examined the relationship between self-efficacy, background factors and performance among lecturers in Makerere University in Kampala district. The target sample was all lecturers that consisted 46 males, 38 females, 44 in the age bracket of 30 -39, 24 in the age bracket of 40 -49, 10 in the age bracket of 50-59 and 6 in the age bracket of 60 – 69, 32 Anglicans , 20 Catholics, 12 Muslims and 20 other religions , 52 master’s degree holder and 32 P.H.D holders , 12 high income earners, 60 middle income earners and 12 low income earners , a case in point I gave out 100 questionnaires but received 84 back from lecturers in Makerere University in Kawempe division Kampala district .They were selected by simple random sampling technique .Data was collected using a purpose constructed self-administered questionnaire and analyzed data using MS Excel and established the means . Mean comparisons were used to establish the relationships and the results of the study showed there was a relationship between background factors and self-efficacy, between background factor and performance and between self-efficacy and performance among lecturers in Makerere University. The researcher recommended that Makerere academic staff needs to go under pedagogical training and they should be facilitated with the necessary resources in time to improve their performance ,needs to improve on the rewarding system to increase their performanceen_US
