dc.description.abstract | The study assessment of Parenting Styles, Peer Pressure and Substance Abuse among Adolescents in Secondary Schools in Kampala District .It will focus on the following variables which include parenting styles as independent variable, peer pressure as an inter-mediating variable and substance abuse as dependent variable among adolescents in Kampala district.
Literature review which is chapter two and will include works of other scholars that wrote about Parenting Styles, Peer Pressure and Substance Abuse among Adolescents
Data was collected using instruments like questionnaires under the sample size of 58 respondents and data was analysed using the statistical package for social science (SPSS version 22) and the most limitation of the study were time constraint due to busy schedule of the responds during the time of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The study adopted correlation research design because it is a specific type of non-experimental design used to describe the relationship between or among variables. The correlation research design was used to measure relationship between parenting styles, peer pressure and substance abuse among adolescents. Data was presented into statistical information using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (r) to establish whether the variables were correlated.
So the researcher observed and correlated that it is important to note that, the study revealed that there was a a significant relationship between Parenting styles and Substance abuse among adolescents, implying that negative parenting styles like authoritarian and permissive parenting styles can drag an adolescent into substance abuse , for hypothesis two, it came to researcher’s conclusion that the alternative hypothesis is retained and it’s concluded that there is a significant relationship between Peer pressure and Substance abuse among adolescents among adolescents hence it implies that the type of peers an adolescent spend time with as a greater impact on his/her usage of substance and drugs, conclusively, hypothesis three had it that the alternative hypothesis is retained and it’s concluded that there is a significant relationship between Parenting styles and Peer pressure among adolescents. | en_US |
