dc.description.abstractIn any organization, employee engagement is most important in an organization. The engaged employee goes an added mile, they trust in and socialize themselves with the organization, put more effort to make things well improved, they are aware of the company framework and compliments fellow workmates. The main objective of the study was to determine the relationship between employee engagement and organizational commitment among the academic staff of Makerere University. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted for this study. The sample size consisted of forty-eight respondents who were lecturers of Makerere University. The tool used to collect data was a self-administered questionnaire. The research data entry was done using statistical package for social scientists and analyzed the relationship using Pearson product moment coefficient correlation. From the results of this study, one can draw a subsequent conclusion. One, the working duration of the lecturers at Makerere University confirms that the respondents were knowledgeable about issues to do with employee engagement and organizational commitment hence their responses were very relevant to this study. This study infers that majority of the lecturers have served the university for over 6 years hence had enough work experience which increase their level of confidence to perform well. Finally, the study found a strong link between employee engagement and organizational commitment. This implies that when the level of employee engagement improves, the level of organizational commitment also improves. Therefore, with a positive relationship between the two concepts, the organizations in the structuring of the selection process they should hire employees who have the desired traits that promote commitment and engagementen_US
