dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and employee engagement. Job satisfaction and employee engagement are one of the important factors which have drawn attention of managers in the organisations as well as academicians. Various studies have concluded that creating and sustaining job satisfaction and employee engagement among employees is an ongoing challenge for organisations, because satisfied and engaged employees constitute a highly productive workforce that is coveted by management enabling a competitive advantage such as higher productivity. These employees demonstrate their satisfaction and engagement through their services to clients or customers and help to generate more profits for the organisation. Organisations want dedicated, satisfied and engaged employees working for them because these employees understand how to achieve the goals and objectives of the organisations which helps to create a competitive advantage of consistent productivity. The main objective of the study was to determine the relationship between employee engagement and organizational commitment among the academic staff of Makerere University. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted for this study. The sample size consisted of forty-four respondents who were lecturers of Makerere University. The tool used to collect data was a self-administered questionnaire. The research data entry was done using statistical package for social scientists and analysed the relationship using Pearson product moment coefficient correlation. The study revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between job satisfaction and employee engagement.en_US
