| dc.description.abstract | Today, adolescents with a lot of demands, pressure and expectations as a result of the developmental changes they experience as they transition from childhood to adulthood, this stage exposes them to a lot of pressure, stress and sometimes can affect their overall behavior and academic performance. This study was carried out to assess the relationship between parenting style, risky behavior and academic achievement among adolescents. The purpose and objectives of the study include the following; To find out the relationship between parenting style and risky behavior, to find out the relationship between parenting style and academic achievement, to find out the relationship between risky behavior and academic achievement.
Correlative cross-sectional study design was applied because correlation is the most suitable method to measure relationships between two continuous variables and cross-sectional study design is most appropriate for comparison of different strata. Questionnaires were later issued out to collect data from the adolescents.
Through a correlative analysis, the study reveals that there is no significant relationship between the variables. Additionally, One-way ANOVA tests showed that there is no statistically significant difference between gender and mean scores of parenting style, risky behavior and academic achievement.
In a conclusion, this research showed that there is need for further studies taking into account other significant factors like ethnic minority, context, mixed parenting styles, socio-demographic factors and child perceptions as well as considering paternal and maternal perspectives. Also, methodology like multilevel modelling to better understand community and individual perceptions on parenting practice and adolescent outcomes. | en_US |
