Social support, parenting styles and delinquency among school going adolescents
Abstract
Most adolescents in Uganda engage in delinquent behavior. This study sought to examine the relationship between social support, parenting styles and delinquency among adolescents. A correlational study design that is quantitative and descriptive in nature was used in the study. A sample of 75 adolescents both male and female, aged between 12-19 years was selected by use of simple random sampling strategy. Results were analyzed by use of statistical package for social scientists(SPSS, Version 23). Results indicated that there is a significant relationship between social support and parenting styles among adolescents; the study also found that there is a significant relationship between parenting styles and delinquency among adolescents. Additionally,results also revealed a significant relationship between social support and delinquency among school going adolescents.
